The International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB®) has released version 1.1 of the Certified Tester Specialist Level: Testing with Generative AI (CT-GenAI) syllabus, a minor update to v1.0.
The update introduces targeted corrections, some terminology updates, and minor clarifications across selected sections of the syllabus, ensuring continued consistency and accuracy. These include updates to hands-on objectives, refinements to evaluation metrics descriptions, clarifications in risk-related content, terminology adjustments, and the addition of context for LLM-powered agents and AI-assisted testing approaches. Please refer to the Release Note for full details.
This update does not change the structure, learning objectives, or overall scope of the certification. Accredited training providers are not required to reaccredit.
The CT-GenAI syllabus continues to provide a comprehensive framework for understanding and applying generative AI in software testing, covering:
- Foundations of generative AI and Large Language Models
- Prompt engineering for software testing tasks
- Risks and limitations, including hallucinations, bias, and data privacy considerations
- Use of LLM-powered tools, assistants, and automation approaches
- Organizational adoption and skills development for AI-enabled testing
The certification maintains a strong focus on practical application, particularly in prompt engineering, evaluation of AI-generated outputs, and effective use of generative AI across the testing lifecycle
CT-GenAI is intended for software testers, test analysts, automation engineers, test managers, developers, and other professionals seeking to integrate generative AI into their testing practices. Candidates are required to hold the ISTQB® Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) certification.
